Woman struck by pickup truck in her own driveway has died, York police say

A senior was on her own driveway when she was truck by the driver of a pickup truck on Wednesday afternoon, says York Regional Police.

It happened Wednesday just after 3 p.m. Police say the victim, a 76-year-old woman, was on her own driveway in the Davis Drive and Highway 48 area in Whitchurch-Stouffville when officers allege she was struck by the driver of a blue GMC Sierra truck who had “gone off the road.”

The victim was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries but died in hospital, said police in a news release Thursday.

Investigators with York’s major collision unit are looking for witnesses who haven’t yet spoken to police or anyone who may have dashcam footage of the collision or any “pre-driving” footage leading up to the incident.

Anyone with information can contact the Major Collision Investigation Unit by calling 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7704, or to call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS, or leave an anonymous tip online at www.1800222tips.com.
