Saskatchewan RCMP lay charges over 2006 party killing case

REGINA – Saskatchewan RCMP have charged someone in the killing of a young man at a high school party more than 17 years ago.

Mounties say a man has been charged with second-degree murder in Misha Pavelick’s death.

RCMP can’t name the accused because he was a youth at the time.

RCMP have been investigating Pavelick’s death since he was killed over the May long weekend in 2006.

Pavelick, who was 19, had been involved in a fight that broke out at a high school camping party near Regina Beach, north of the provincial capital.

Police say the accused was arrested Saturday and is to make a second court appearance on July 17.

Police have said there were about 200 people at the party and that officers have conducted 200 formal interviews.

Two years ago, officers searched the water at Regina Beach to look for clues in the case.
