RCMP say two children have died in separate drownings in Manitoba

WINNIPEG – Two children have died in separate drownings in northern Manitoba.

RCMP say a 23-month-old boy was found in a lake outside his family’s home in Garden Hill First Nation last Thursday.

The Mounties say the boy had been in the care of older siblings at the time, and died in a Winnipeg hospital three days later.

On Sunday, police responded to a drowning in St. Theresa Point First Nation, about 15 kilometres away.

They say two 10-year-old girls swam out too far, and one was rescued by a bystander.

A safety officer with dive equipment found the other girl and she was pronounced dead at the local nursing station.
