Gantt Named Chancellor at Southern University-Shreveport


SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — Shreveport native Aubra Gantt was chosen Friday as the next chancellor at the Southern University Shreveport campus.

The Southern University System said in a news release that the system board unanimously approved Gantt.

According to Southern’s news release, Gantt began her educational career with jobs at the Shreveport campus.

She is the founding vice president for academic outreach and student success at the Tarrant County College Connect Campus in Fort Worth, Texas, according to the news release. She also was registrar at the TCC Northwest Campus for 13 years. And she has served as dean of enrollment management at Scottsdale Community College in the Maricopa Community College District in Arizona.

“She is a product of Southern University and this community,” said Board member Sam Gilliam. “Southern and Shreveport are proving to be training grounds for leadership.”

Gantt holds a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies from Southern University in Baton Rouge; a master’s degree in social work from Southern University at New Orleans, and a doctorate of education in higher education administration from the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas.
