It’s early days in the Raptors’ search for a new head coach, but the rumours on potential candidates are already plentiful.
Becky Hammon in particular has generated a ton of interest from fans and media after it was reported that the Raptors will interview the respected long-time NBA assistant who went on to lead the Las Vegas Aces to the 2022 WNBA championship in her first year as head coach.
The Star’s Doug Smith wrote that Hammon is the best coach for the job.
While on site in Vegas to reveal the Aces’ new facility, Hammon was asked about the Raptors coaching rumours and how she manages that potential distraction with her players.
“I just said I’m not commenting on Toronto, because this is all about the Aces,” Hammon said. “And I won’t take one moment away from these women to talk about them boys.”
Hammon, 46, worked on the San Antonio Spurs staff for eight seasons before coaching the WNBA Aces to a championship last year. She’s been interviewed for several NBA vacancies in the past few years, but has yet to become the first female head coach in league history.
