The Andhra Pradesh government argued that the high court had exceeded its jurisdiction in the case by conducting a mini-trial on Chandrababu Naidu’s bail plea

The Andhra Pradesh government on Tuesday moved the Supreme Court against the order of the High Court granting bail to TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu in the Skill Development Corporation scam case.

The Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government argued that the high court had exceeded its jurisdiction in the case by conducting a mini-trial.

“Hon’ble High Court has exceeded its jurisdiction by conducting a mini-trial and rendering findings on merits. This, it is most respectfully submitted, ought not to be allowed,” the government said.

“From a bare perusal of the above, it is evident that the Hon’ble High Court has completely erred in granting bail to the Respondent. The Accused is an influential person and has ensured that two of his key associates (including a Government Servant) have already fled the Country. The Accused is therefore clearly obstructing the conduct of the investigation and, therefore, ought not to be granted bail,” it added.

The Andhra government also said that the high court’s findings on the merits of the case are inaccurate.

“The Hon’ble High Court has grossly erred in making various specific findings on the merits of the case at hand, which are either inaccurate or prejudicial to the Prosecution’s case against the Respondent,” the government added.

This comes after the Andhra Pradesh High Court (HC) on Monday granted regular bail to former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in the skill development scam case. The TDP Chief was already on a four-week temporary bail after he underwent cataract surgery at a hospital in Hyderabad. He is recuperating in his Hyderabad residence.

Naidu was granted interim bail by the Andhra court on October 31 on medical grounds and was required to report at the Rajamahendravaram Central prison before 5 pm on November 28.
