Aamir Khan Took ‘A Step Back’ After Laal Singh Chaddha Flopped; Kiran Rao Says ‘It Was Not Right…’ – News18

Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha earned hardly Rs 60 crore at the Indian box office.

Kiran Rao also talked about Aamir Khan’s decision of taking a break after Laal Singh Chaddha failure and revealed that the actor wanted to spend time with his family.

It is no secret that when Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha hit theatres in August 2022, it failed to impress the audience and earned hardly Rs 60 crore at the Indian box office. Over a year after the film’s release, Aamir Khan’s former wife, Kiran Rao has now revealed that the film’s failure took a toll on family too.

“It did take a toll on us,” Kiran told Indian Express and then added, “As a family, we were all around Aamir.” She further talked about Aamir’s decision to take a break after Laal Singh Chaddha’s failure and revealed that the actor wanted to spend time with his family.

“He was the one who took a step back. He wanted to re-examine his work and his life. For someone who was giving successes at the box office, and been relentlessly working for so long, I think it was the time that made him introspect,” she said and shared that the entire family stood in support of him. “We all stuck it out together,” she added.

Asked what might have resulted in Laal Singh Chaddha’s failure, Kiran explained, “We have thought about it a lot and Aamir has spoken about it extensively. The pitch of the film was maybe not what people expected after seeing Forrest Gump. The pacing perhaps didn’t quite work and we were coming out of COVID-19 and maybe it was not the right film to bring straight after Covid.”

“I don’t know what it was, the pitch, the pacing, the timing of the release or the hype because the film had been coming for so long, a lot of things affected the film. I feel each film has the quality of luck also that applies. Laal Singh was a remake of the worldwide iconic film, so how to play the expectations down to the right level was perhaps what the film suffered from,” she added.

Released on August 11, 2022, Laal Singh Chaddha starred Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh and Naga Chaitanya in key roles. It was directed by Advait Chandan and was the official Hindi remake of Tom Hanks’ 1994 movie Forrest Gump.
