YS Sharmila taken to hospital late at night by cops amid fast against KCR

The YSR Telangana Party’s president YS Sharmila, who had launched a hunger strike against Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Friday, was shifted to a hospital late at night by the state police as her health deteriorated. The YSRTP has been protesting against KCR since last week. Dramatic visuals last week showed her car being towed away by cops while she was in it amid one such stir.

The battle between between the two leaders escalated as her foot march – the Praja Prasthanam padayatra – in the state ruled by the TRS was halted. The leader has been detained multiple times since last week.

She “was arrested from her “deeksha” location, and shifted to Apollo Hospitals in Jubilee Hills in the city around 1.00 a.m,” a party statement said on Sunday. “YS Sharmila, who was on an indefinite fast since Friday morning, did not even consume water, which resulted in her health condition deteriorating rapidly. Doctors from Apollo Hospitals, who were earlier monitoring her health stated that Y S Sharmila’s blood pressure and glucose levels have fallen down to alarming levels, and expressed concern over dehydration which could lead to electrolyte imbalance, potent enough to pose danger to her kidneys,” it further added. YS Sharmila is Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Reddy’s sister.

The YSRTP further said that the “Telangana Police forced media personnel, party leaders and cadres, to move away from the location before she was forcefully shifted out of her deeksha location.”

Amid the foot march, YS Sharmila had earlier said that she can “fill the political vaccuum” in Telangana. Her foot march aims at bringing back “Rajanna Rajyam,” the welfare state envisioned by her father YS Rajasekhar Reddy who died in 2009.

She has so far covered 3,500 km of the 4,000 km long foot march launched in October, 2021.
