“Continuing with its exercise to reclaim government land over which unauthorised occupation and illegal construction has been done, the DDA on Friday demolished the farmhouse of high-profile liquor baron late Ponty Chadha alias Gurdeep Singh, spread over about 10 acres in Chhatarpur worth about Rs 400 crore,” the officials said.

Who Was Ponty Chadha?

One of India’s most powerful businessmen, Ponty Chadha was killed in a shootout with his estranged brother Hardeep in 2012 following an argument between them over property. He was 55 years old at the time of his death. According to police officers, Hardeep opened fire at Ponty, following which the latter’s security officer shot Hardeep.

As per reports, the brothers were fighting over their family business – estimated at around Rs 6,000 crore- spread over four states, following the death of their father Kulwant Singh Chadha the previous year.

Ponty Chadha was the sole liquor distributor in Uttar Pradesh. His other businesses included real estate, sugar mills and film production, which he used to manage along with his two brothers – Hardeep and Rajinder.

Ponty Chaddha also owned the Wave Group and ran a popular chain of multiplexes under the brand in the Delhi-NCR region.
