A leopard entered a house in Coonoor area of Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu on Diwali and escaped after staying there for 15 hours.

Several incidents of wild animals entering residential areas often emerge on social media. In a similar incident, a leopard entered a house in Coonoor in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu on Sunday. The leopard was captured on CCTV camera entering the house.

The incident has been reported from a residential area in Brooklands in Coonoor. The leopard entered the house early morning on Diwali day after straying into a residential area.

Forest Department officials were immediately informed by the owner of the house. When they reached the place to conduct a rescue operation, the animal reportedly pounced on them. The leopard took shelter inside the house for nearly 15 hours even as the officials attempted to trap it.

According to Forest Department officials, the leopard was spotted on the CCTV camera installed in the premises of the house. The wild cat attacked as many as six people including four members of the rescue team comprising forest and fire department personnel.

The video of the incident, shared on social media platforms, has drawn varied comments from users. A user wrote, “Scary but quite a sight.” Another said, “I guess it is actually video footage of a leopard leaving the home after a 12 hours stay inside.”

While another user urged authorities to ‘release the animal to a safe place’.

“Well humans built houses in biosphere reserved forests and you blame leopards?” read a comment.

Later, the officials found out that the leopard left the house at around 11 PM on Sunday. Meanwhile, reports suggest that the injured are undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

This is not the first incident of a leopard entering into a residential area in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu. Earlier, in March in Udhagamandalam area residents informed the forest department after spotting a leopard outside the house of a farmer. A pet dog was taken away by a leopard a week before the animal was spotted.

The videos of similar incidents often emerge on social media. Earlier this year, a leopard took away a four-year-old girl in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur. The unfortunate incident took place in the evening of September 2.
