Two men arrested after armed carjackings in Etobicoke last year

Toronto police have arrested two men in relation to two carjacking incidents in South Etobicoke last spring.

Police said in a press release issued Friday that they responded to a robbery call in the Queensway and Islington Avenue area on May 16.

Two victims were getting into a parked vehicle when a black Honda Civic pulled up and blocked the vehicle from leaving, police said.

Two male suspects allegedly exited the Honda Civic, armed with handguns, while a third suspect was armed with a knife. The two men with guns approached the victims and demanded their keys, police said, while the suspect with the knife pointed it at one of the victims and demanded their cellphone.

After the suspects took the victims’ car keys and cellphone, two of the men entered the victims’ vehicle and drove off from the scene. The third man returned to the Honda Civic and fled the scene.

Last spring, Mitch Marner’s agent confirmed to the Star that the Leafs winger was the victim in a gunpoint robbery near an Etobicoke movie theatre on May 16. The agent said Marner’s black Range Rover was stolen and that the hockey player was left “rattled.”

Police confirmed Friday that they recovered a black 2021 Land Rover in relation to the carjacking. (A Range Rover is a specific Land Rover model.)

Neither Toronto police nor Marner’s agent confirmed if the arrests announced Friday were connected to Marner’s case.

Further, police said that on April 17, almost a month before the May carjacking, they responded to a call for reports of a separate robbery in the Queensway and The West Mall area.

Investigators said the victim was sitting in a parked vehicle when a dark grey sedan pulled up and blocked the victim’s vehicle from leaving.

A man then exited the vehicle and approached the victim, police said. The suspect allegedly brandished a handgun and pointed it at the victim, demanding their keys.

Police said the victim exited the vehicle and fled the area, while the suspect reportedly entered the victim’s vehicle and drove it away, with the grey sedan following behind.

On Wednesday, police said they executed two search warrants and located two suspects.

Christon Arman Johnson, 24, of Toronto, is charged with two counts of robbery with a firearm, two counts of disguise with intent and two counts of failure to comply with a release order.

Johnson was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.

Anas Adan Farah, 21, of Toronto, is charged with robbery with a firearm and disguise with intent.

Farah was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.

Police said one unidentified male suspect is still at large. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-7350.
