Toronto to get hit with a dump of snow starting Wednesday

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for Toronto advising of the potential for significant snowfall late Wednesday into Thursday.

The advisory, issued on Sunday afternoon, said that Toronto can expect total snowfall accumulations of 10 to 15 centimetres and up to 20 centimetres in some regions.

Environment Canada meteorologist Mitch Meredith said that it appears that some of the heaviest snow will start during the afternoon commute.

“You have to be prepared for a very long drive and sort of gas up and be prepared to take that extra hour, possibly, to get home because that’s what it might be like,” said Meredith.

The statement also advised that there may be periods of reduced visibility and rapidly accumulating snow, which could make travel difficult.

Special weather statements are also in effect for the rest of Southern Ontario.

“It’s a fairly big system,” said Meredith. “It’s just kind of plowing through everybody.”
