2022 Kia Sportage SUV breaks cover with safety updates – Times of India


SEOUL: Kia Motors globally unveiled the fifth generation of Sportage, featuring hybrid (HEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models.
The 1.6-liter TGDI engine delivers 177 hp and 265 Nm of torque and it is mated to either a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (7DCT) or a six-speed manual transmission.
The 2.0-liter diesel engine develops 183 hp of power and 416 Nm of torque gets an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Dimensionally, Kia Sportage measures in width of 1,865mm, length of 4,660mm and height of 1,660mm and a boot space of 637 litres. The all-new Sportage is the first Kia vehicle to be available in long-wheelbase and short-wheelbase model variants, depending on the region.
The all-new Sportage is equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) technology with an improved torsional rigidity and Highway Driving Assist for maintain a safe distance and speed. It gets driver airbag, passenger airbag, side curtain airbags and low-side airbags.
Other safety features include Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC), Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM) and Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA).
The exterior of the all-new Sportage aims to establish a new design. It is based on Kia’s new design language – Opposites United influencing every aspect of its appearance and character.
From the front, the all-new Sportage embodies a detailed-orientated black grille graphic with boomerang-shaped LED DRLs (daytime running lamps) which creates solid boundary lines for the striking Matrix LED headlamps.

From the side, the Sportage gets strong body lines, and a chrome beltline, while the rear lights have a slim horizontal design. Kia also offers a first for the Sportage range, a black roof and different colour paint options. The new Sportage offers 17, 18 or 19-inch wheels with a choice of seven different alloy designs, colors and finishes.
The latest Sportage is embedded with a 12-inch, large and swooping curved display. The display gets a slim touchscreen pad and is fitted with the latest-generation full thin-film-transistor liquid-crystal display.

It also includes a center console with soft-touch switches, operating system configuration, upholders and storage with space for wireless phone charging.
In a first, Kia Sportage gets advanced Terrain mode which is claimed to automatically adjust the vehicle’s settings for difficult road terrain. It also gets a new Electric Control Suspension (ECS) for better damping control. An electronic 4WD system is offered for optimal power distribution between the front and rear wheels depending on road conditions and driving situations.
