The district collector of Chennai, Rashmi Siddharth Zagade, announced a holiday for schools in the city today, November 15, as a precaution to the incessant rainfall across numerous districts of Tamil Nadu. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts heavy downpours in Chennai and surrounding regions on Wednesday.

“Tamil Nadu | Holiday declared for all schools in Chennai District on November 15, due to continuous heavy rainfall in the district: District Collector Rashmi Siddharth Zagade.” ANI posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Schools and other educational institutions in Villupuram, Ariyalur, Cuddalore, and Nagapattinam are also going to remain closed today. The torrential rains in Karaikal, Union territory of Puducherry, have also resulted in the closure of schools and colleges. Puducherry Home Minister A Namassivayam also stated that due to the persistent rains, a holiday has been declared for educational institutions on November 15. Meanwhile, Chengalpattu and Kanchipuram District Collectors have announced that there will be no holiday today. This decision shortly after the weather in the aforementioned regions improved.

For the past several days, significant rain has been recorded across many districts of Tamil Nadu. On November 9, torrential rain prompted the closure of schools in Tamil Nadu districts. Not only have thunderstorms and lightning/gusty winds been anticipated over Tamil Nadu, but also over Andhra Pradesh from November 13 to 15. Additionally, isolated periods of intense rain are predicted for Kerala on November 15–16 and Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry on November 14–15. Over the next seven days, light to moderately widespread rainfall is very much expected across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
