Spring is about to be sprung. So when’s the warm weather finally arriving in Toronto?

Ontario has been walloped by winter storms this season, having experienced its darkest winter in more than 80 years, but most people across the province are ready to shed some layers, ditch the shovels, and welcome some warmer weather.

Spring arrives at 5:24 p.m. on Monday but it’s hard to forget the winter that was.

Wild winter weather saw parts of southern Ontario receive back-breaking amounts of snow that broke records, and even “thundersnow” leading to hazardous road conditions and forcing flight cancellations.

Data by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) indicated that between December 2022 and February 2023, some regions of Ontario recorded the lowest levels of solar energy since 1940.

Although Monday marks the first day of spring, a seasonal forecast issued earlier this month by The Weather Network is calling for more wintry weather for March and April.

Here’s your weather forecast for the first week of spring.

Monday

Toronto should see sunny skies with temperatures reaching a high of 6 C, and a wind chill of – 9 C. This is in line with the average for March 20, which is 5 C, but well below the record set in 2012 where temperatures reached 21.9 C on this day, according to Environment Canada.

Winds from the southwest could reach up to 50 km/h, and the UV index is 5 or moderate.
