Spain vs. Poland – Football Match Report – June 20, 2021 – ESPN

Spain and Poland played to a 1-1 draw in their second Group E game at Euro 2020 on Saturday in Seville.

Alvaro Morata scored near the half-hour mark but Robert Lewandowski leveled after the break to ensure each side left the Estadio Olímpico de la Cartuja with a a point.

The result gives Spain two points from two matches. Poland have one point after an opening loss to Slovakia.

Morata, who came in for criticism for missed chances against the Swedes, put Spain ahead in the 25th minute when he stepped in front of a Poland defender and slotted home Gerard Moreno‘s cross from outside the box. Though the goal was initially called off, a VAR review judged the Juventus striker was in a legal position when the ball was played his way.

Lewandowski pulled Poland even in the 54th minute with a well-guided header at the far post after climbing over Aymeric Laporte to reach a Kamil Jozwiak cross from the right.

Spain squandered a golden chance to get back in front moments later. Another VAR review awarded Moreno a penalty after being stepped on by a Jakub Moder in the box, but he fired the resulting spot kick off the left post and Morata’s attempt to bury the rebound went well wide with the goal gaping.
