With that, welcome Peter Della Penna for the first time today.

Siripala Ayya: “Four fast bowlers for Sri Lanka?! Holy Moly, who’s gonna back Hasaranga”

Sean Daniel: “I felt that we should have batted first as the top order has not been firing and chasing even a par score would prove challenging. What is ur take on it. ” — My funda is if bowling is your stronger suit, you bat first. If your batting is stronger, you bowl first. So going by that, batting first would have made more sense.

Here are the XIs:

Sri Lanka: 1 Kusal Perera (wk), 2 Pathum Nissanka, 3 Charith Asalanka, 4 Avishka Fernando, 5 Bhanuka Rajapaksa, 6 Dasun Shanaka (capt), 7 Chamika Karunaratne, 8 Wanindu Hasaranga, 9 Dushmantha Chameera, 10 Lahiru Kumara, 11 Binura Fernando

Bangladesh 1 Litton Das, 2 Mohammad Naim, 3 Shakib Al Hasan, 4 Mushfiqur Rahim, 5 Mohammad Mahmudullah (capt), 6 Afif Hossain, 7 Nurul Hasan (wk), 8 Mahedi Hasan, 9 Mohammad Saifuddin, 10 Nasum Ahmed, 11 Mustafizur Rahman

1.32pm Sri Lanka have won the toss and they will bowl first. “After the IPL, it seems the wicket is keeping down a bit,” says Dasun Shanaka. “It’s been a really good team environment after winning three games and practice matches. Maheesh Theekshana is not fit. Binura Fernando comes in for him.”

“We would have liked to bat first,” says Mahmudullah. “We need to adapt to the conditions. Hopefully, it’s a good one to bat on. A bit of a relief after that first loss. The boys are relaxed. We have got one change: Taskin Ahmed is not playing, Nasum Ahmed comes in.”

Time for the toss.

Dipanjan Show: “One of my fantasy team is an exact copy to copy of the one you guys made. Let’s see how many points I get.” — Ah, yes, you can check our Fantasy XI here.

Noaman Khan: “This group has tougher competition. In the other group only 3 teams are competing for semi finals. India, Pak and NZ. One of them will be decided later tonight. As the winner of pak vs ind will go through considering the confidence and momentum of that team.” — But that also means there is no room for a slip-up.

hammad: “no, they also participated in asia cup of shorter version (T20) held in 2018” — That was the 50-over version, as a preparation for the 2019 World Cup.

Sanjana : “Aren’t the qualifiers matches considered as International matches too?? ” — They are but Bangladesh’s were in Oman, not in the UAE.

1.20pm Sampath tells me this will be Bangladesh’s first T20I in the UAE.

Mahneel: “Had to change cubicle to ensure my screen is not visible from the bosses room. Problems of world cup matches starting at 4 PM.”

Maduranga: “This is going to be a battle between Experienced vs Inexperienced, Veterans vs Beginners, Seasoned vs Promised… Who is going to handle to the pressure well?”

In the USA, you can watch the match live on ESPN+ in English and in Hindi.

1.10pm Meanwhile, Russell Domingo, the Bangladesh head coach, is expecting Sharjah pitches to be similar to those in Dhaka and is banking on his spinners to play a major role. “We are happy with the 2pm starts – it suits us big time,” he says. “It takes dew out of the equation. I think our spinners will come very much into the competition.” Mohammad Isam has more.

Matt Roller is at the venue: “Another scorching hot day (by my standards) in Sharjah. It’s a weekday here but there are a few fans in already and plenty more queuing outside to get in. Looks like one very short boundary today – the strip is a long way across the square – so captains will need to make sure they get their bowlers at the right ends and nail those all-important #matchups.”

Mustafa Moudi: “Dont know whether its planned or not but this Sunday we will witness all the sides from the Indian Subcontinent in action !!”

1.00pm Hello and welcome the Super Sub-continent Sunday. The day kicks off with Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka in Sharjah. Both teams qualified from the first round and now find themselves in the group of death. Bangladesh may be the more experienced side but Sri Lanka are on a high after three commanding wins the first round. If you ask me, their bowling attack looked as good as any other in the tournament. But they might be without Maheesh Theekshana, the mystery spinner, for today’s game. And while Wanindu Hasaranga is a handful on these pitches, Andrew Fidel Fernando in his preview says Sri Lanka will rely on their pacers to topple Bangladesh.
