Smriti Mandhana hails match-winning partnership with Elysse Perry after UPW win

Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Smriti Mandhana has heaped praise on her match-winning partnership with Elysee Perry, saying they were both focused on executing their plans. RCB beat UP Warriorz by 23 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

RCB registered their third win of WPL 2024, on the back of a brilliant 95-run partnership between Perry and Mandhana. They now have six points from five matches and are placed third in the WPL 2024 points table. Having lost their last two matches against Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians, the win against UPW came as a morale booster for Mandhana’s side.

Speaking after the match, Mandhana said everyone batted well against UPW, insisting that they had to bounce back after losing their last two matches. Mandhana scored 80 runs off 50 deliveries, smashing 10 boundaries and three sixes, while Perry hit a 37-ball 58, smashing four boundaries and as many sixes.

“We were under the pump after the last two games and we knew we had to get going today. Losing the toss didn’t help but there was a clear message to show intent straightaway. Everyone batted really well including Meghana at the top and then the bowlers came out and did their job. Definitely got a little lucky on 26 but I’ll take that because we really wanted this win,” said Mandhana.

She went on to say that she’s played with Perry for over 10 matches but this was their first 50-plus stand. Mandhana and Perry’s partnership helped RCB post 198 for 3 on the scoreboard, before bowling their opposition out for 175 runs.

“Me and Perry were saying to each other that we’ve played together for 10 matches but this was the first 50-run stand. We are both experienced enough to recognize which bowler to target. There wasn’t much chat, it was just about executing. We never thought that we were out of the game, that’s how T20 cricket is,” Mandhana added.

Following their win over UP Warriorz, RCB will take on Beth Mooeny’s Gujarat Giants at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on March 6.
