Shubman Gill has DNA of greatness: Aakash Chopra after batter lights up 5th Test

Aakash Chopra was in awe of Shubman Gill, who scored a spectacular hundred on Day 2 of India’s 5th Test against England at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamsala.

Gill, who was fighting for form when the series started, raced to his 4th Test hundred off 137 balls by hitting Shoaib Bashir for a four.

Gill went on to score 110 runs off 150 deliveries with 12 fours and 5 sixes before becoming James Anderson’s 699th victim in Test cricket.

After Gill racked up the century, Chopra said that the young batter has the talent to become of the greats of the game. | IND vs ENG, 5th Test scorecard

“I am convinced that Shubman Gill has the DNA of greatness because of the way he bats. A lot of things are important while batting. Scoring runs is one thing but the other thing is to get the understanding of how to score runs,” Chopra told Colors Cineplex.

Everyone has to score runs

Until the Rajkot Test, Gill was struggling for form, but the batter has made amends and is currently the second-highest run-scorer in the ongoing series. In 9 innings, he has racked up 452 runs at an average of 56.50.

“Everyone has to score runs to reach here or else you wouldn’t have reached here, it’s very simple. However, at times it takes a lifetime to understand when, how, and against whom you have the most chances of scoring runs,” Chopra added.

Batting at No.3, Gill also stitched together a handy partnership of 171 runs for the second wicket with skipper Rohit Sharma, who also notched a well-made century.

On the back of his knock, India have got themselves into a position of command as they were leading by 255 runs at Stumps on Day 2.
