An expert said that the Goddess Durga’s arrival will be considered auspicious for people associated with the business of property, land and buildings.

Shardiya Navratri, the festival of nine days of worshipping Goddess Durga and her nine avatars, is celebrated with enthusiasm across India. Pandit Kalki Ram told News18 that this year the Shardiya Navratri will start on October 15, Sunday. According to the religious scriptures, if Navratri begins on Sunday or Monday then it is believed that Goddess Durga comes mounting on an elephant.

Pandit Kalki Ram said that Goddess Durga’s arrival on an elephant would prove to be beneficial for the farmers. The weather will be conducive to the farming conditions and there will be enough rainfall as well. Pandit Ram added that the Goddess Durga’s arrival will also be considered auspicious for people associated with the business of property, land and buildings. They are likely to be in a profitable position for the next six months. People are likely to gain profits if they buy, sell, or rent the property as well, he further said. It is believed that if someone worships the nine incarnations of the Goddess Durga, they will get relief from all the discomforts and their wishes will also be fulfilled.

The nine incarnations of Goddess Durga are – Shailputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandmata, Kalaratri, Mahagauri and Siddhidatri. There are some things that are strictly prohibited during this time. They are-

1. One must follow a sattvic diet during these days and not consume onion and garlic. These food products are tamasic in nature and are considered to be harmful to the body and mind.

2. Non-vegetarian food is also strictly prohibited during this time and people should also avoid alcohol and tobacco during this time.

3. Devotees who observe the fast should also not eat legumes, lentils, rice, corn flour, whole wheat and semolina.

4. Cutting the nails and hair during the Navratri time is also not advised as according to religious beliefs, it is said to enrage the Goddess Durga.

5. As written in the Vishnu Puran, one must also avoid sleeping in the afternoon, if he or she has observed the fast during the Navratri time.
