Schools Across Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore, 4 Other Districts Shut Due to Heavy Rains – News18

Schools have been shut in several districts in Tamil Nadu due to heavy rains today, November 9. Five districts including Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Madurai, Theni, and Dinidigul, as well as a few taluks in Nilgiris, have declared a holiday for schools on Thursday. Madurai District Collector Sangeetha too has declared a holiday for schools in the district today, reported ANI.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rainfall is likely to continue in Tamil Nadu till tomorrow, November 9. Apart from TN, IMD has issued an isolated heavy rainfall alert for Kerala, Puducherry and Karaikal, Coastal and South Interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Several districts in Tamil Nadu including Tiruvannamalai and Erode witnessed waterlogging earlier. The state also recorded moderate to heavy rainfall on Tuesday in several parts.

Due to the north-east monsoon or the winter monsoon, southern India has been witnessing heavy rainfall. The Northeast monsoon usually occurs between October and December.
