Ranji Trophy: Dinesh Karthik slams TN coach for Sai Kishore remark after semi loss

Dinesh Karthik was left fuming at the comments made by Tamil Nadu coach Sulakshan Kulkarni about R Sai Kishore getting things wrong at the toss during their semi-final loss to Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy on March 4.

What did Kulkarni say after the loss?

Kulkarni spoke to the media and pinned the blame on Sai Kishore for opting to bat first on the track and even claimed they lost the match at the toss.

“I always speak straightforward — we lost the match at 9’o clock on Day One. Everything was set, we won the toss, as a coach, as a Mumbaikar, I know the conditions well. We should have bowled but the captain had some different instinct.

“Ultimately, he is the boss. I can give my feedback and inputs (as to) what kind of wickets and Mumbai’s mindset also. (From) 106/7, I knew before the match that this (Mumbai’s fightback) may happen,” said Kulkarni.

Disappointing from the coach: Dinesh Karthik

Karthik took to X on Tuesday morning and slammed the comments made by the coach. The wicketkeeper said that he was disappointed by the comments made by Kulkarni and felt that he had thrown Sai Kishore under the bus instead of backing him.

“This is soo WRONG. This is so disappointing from the coach ..instead of backing the captain who has brought the team to the semis after 7 yrs and thinking it’s a start for good things to happen, the coach has absolutely thrown his captain and team under the bus,” said Karthik on X.

What happened in the semi-final between TN and Mumbai?

Mumbai won the semi-final against Tamil Nadu by an innings and 70 runs to make it to the Ranji Trophy final for the 48th time. TN, after batting first, could only get 146 runs. Mumbai had a batting collapse thanks to a six-wicket haul from Sai Kishore, but Shardul Thakur’s hundred and 89 from Tanush Kotian helped them rebuild and score 378 in the end.

The TN batting would collapse yet again and were bowled out for 162, handing Mumbai the win.
