At least six policemen were killed and one more suffered serious injuries after the car that they were travelling in crashed into a parked truck on early Sunday morning in Rajasthan’s Churu district.
Superintendent of Police, Churu, Praveen Nayak told PTI that the accident took place in Sujangarh Sadar police station area at a time when the officials were on the way to Taranagar to attend an election meeting.
The deceased policemen have been identified as ASI Ramchandra of Khinvsar police station, constables Kumbharam, Suresh Meena, Thanaram, Mahendra and Head Constable Sukhram.
As per a Times of India report, the policemen in an SUV were assigned VIP duty at the rally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Jhunjhunu.
Constable Sukhram and Head constable, also identified as Sukhram were injured after the accident and were admitted to the JLN Hospital in Nagaur. Later the two of them were taken to Jodhpur MDM Hospital through the green corridor, however, the constable lost his life on the way.
DGP Umesh Mishra also expressed his grief over the death of police officials in the road crash.
The accident took place at 5.30 am and led to the complete destruction of the front part of the vehicle, due to which the policemen were trapped inside.
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot took to X to express his condolences for the loss of lives in the accident. “Early this morning, sad news was received about the casualties of policemen in a vehicle accident in Sujangarh Sadar area of Churu. Our deepest condolences to the families of all the policemen who died in this accident. I wish for the speedy recovery of the injured,” he said on X.
PM Modi addressed a public meeting in Churu district’s Taranagar where he exhorted people to vote for the BJP in the Assembly polls to ensure rapid development of the state.
Polling across 200 seats in Rajasthan will take place on November 25. The votes will be counted on December 3.
