For the next two days, November 22 and 23, the Regional Meteorological Centre predicts mild to moderate rain with thunder and lightning across Tamil Nadu

Over the past several weeks, the state of Tamil Nadu has been experiencing significant rainfall across its many districts. Schools in Puducherry have been instructed to close today, November 22, due to heavy rainfall and flooding. A school holiday has been declared for today for both government and private educational institutions as announced by the Education Minister.

“Due to heavy rain in the region, a holiday has been announced in all the government and private schools in Puducherry today (22nd November): Education Minister A Namachivayam,” ANI posted on X (formerly Twitter).

According to local media reports, schools in Karaikal have also been ordered to close due to the severe downpour.

The IMD weather update was taken into consideration before making the final decision. For the next two days, November 22 and 23, the Regional Meteorological Centre and IMD issued an orange alert and predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning in a few areas in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

School headmasters in Nagai and Mayiladuthurai, according to a Times Now report, have the authority to determine whether or not to shut down their respective schools. In the midst of the heavy rainfall, schools in Tamil Nadu may move to online lessons. As a result, students are recommended to contact their respective institutions for up-to-date information on classes.

According to the IMD, the cyclonic circulation that is currently persisting over the Comorin region, as well as another that is circulating over the Southwest Bay of Bengal off the Tamil Nadu Coast, will bring about constant rainfall in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Last week, on November 15, the District Collector of Chennai issued a school holiday due to persistent torrential downpours following a forecast of heavy rainfall in Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, and Cuddalore districts by the meteorological department.
