Partner Content | Maple Leafs vs. Red Wings prop picks: Bet on a big night from John Tavares

The Toronto Maple Leafs are back in action, visiting the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday night.

The pregame narrative: John Tavares is on a tear and Auston Matthews’ potential absence could mean more opportunity for the captain. Mitch Marner was shooting the puck more with No. 34 out of the lineup, and we like his chances of scoring a goal. Lastly, we’ll take a stab at Moritz Seider’s point prop after a big night from the sophomore blueliner.

Check out our Maple Leafs vs. Red Wings prop picks for January 12.

Maple Leafs vs. Red Wings prop picks

Best Bet : Tavares to score 2+ points (+255)

Tavares is having an excellent season for the Maple Leafs and he’s heating up once again.

The Toronto forward has an eye-popping 10 points across his last six games, a mark that leads the team during this stretch.

His 4.1 expected goals per 60 mark is also tops on the team, according to Natural Stat Trick.

In fact, Tavares is dominating across the board in some of the most important categories. Over the last 14 days, he’s pacing the Maple Leafs in scoring chances (32) and high-danger chancers (17). He also sits second in shots with 22.

Tavares is facing an opponent he’s been successful against this season, as he has three points in two games against the Red Wings.

Key stat: Tavares has scored two or more points in three consecutive games.

Quick picks

Marner to score a goal (+155): Matthews missed Wednesday’s contest against the Nashville Predators with an undisclosed ailment, making his status for Thursday’s game questionable. With Toronto’s top sniper out of the lineup, Marner took on more of a shoot-first approach, tying for the team lead with four shots.

He converted one of those into a goal, marking the second time in three games he’s tickled twine. The other was against this Detroit team last Saturday.

Seider to score 1+ point (+117): When a player has a truly notable night, it’s not a bad idea to, at the very least, put that player on your radar. After Seider notched four assists against the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday, the rearguard is firmly on our radar.

The hope is more of the same is on the horizon for Seider, as he had tallied just two points across his previous 17 games.

The German blueliner’s going through a sophomore slump, as his 36-point pace this campaign is far below the 50 he scored as a rookie in 2021-22.
