Partner Content | Game 5 Lightning vs. Avalanche Stanley Cup Final prop picks: Value on Tampa Bay’s stars

The Colorado Avalanche can close out the Stanley Cup Final on Friday after winning Game 4 against the Tampa Bay Lightning in overtime.

The pregame narrative: Tampa Bay’s top stars have been quiet through the first four games of this series. We expect that to change with the Lightning in desperate need of a win to keep their season alive.

Here are our Game 5 Lightning vs. Avalanche picks for June 24.

Lightning vs. Avalanche picks overview

  • Steven Stamkos anytime goal (+175)
  • Ondrej Palat anytime point (-134)
  • Victor Hedman anytime point (-155)

Lightning vs. Avalanche picks

Best bet: Stamkos anytime goal (+175)

Tampa Bay’s biggest offensive threats have not been good enough in this series.

The numbers show it, especially for Stamkos. Tampa Bay’s captain is worth praising for his willingness to block shots and commit defensively, but he ultimately gets paid for his offence. Stamkos has scored one goal and has directed just 10 shots on target through the first four games of this series.

But after putting just one puck on net in Game 4 in 22:27 of time on ice, we expect him to be the driving force for the Bolts on Friday.

Let’s take a look at how Stamkos has performed in crucial games for Tampa Bay this postseason. The 32-year-old posted a goal and an assist in a Game 3 win against the New York Rangers with his team trailing the series 0-2. He also came through with both of the Lightning’s goals in the series-clinching Game 6 win.

The sniper also rose to the occasion in this series during Game 3 with his squad once again trailing 0-2. He provided a goal and an assist in a 6-2 win.

We’re betting on Stamkos to score in a big spot based on his recent track record of doing just that.

Key stat: Stamkos’ eight goals since the start of the semifinals are tied for the second-most in the playoffs.

Quick picks

(-134): Palat is one of just four members of the Lightning who have recorded three or more points in this series. He’s still skating on line one with Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov, which is a prime position. His 11 points since the start of the Conference Finals are tied for the Lightning lead.

Hedman anytime point (-155): Betting on Hedman to find the scoresheet requires paying a little more juice, but we still like this number.

It may come as a bit of a surprise, but the defenceman’s four points in the Stanley Cup Final lead the Bolts. He’s registered a point in three of the four games during this series and nine of 14 games since the team’s semifinal series against the Florida Panthers.

Odds as of 12:31 p.m. ET on 06/23/2022.
