One person dies after boating collision on Eel Lake in western Nova Scotia

SAULNIERVILLE, N.S. – Police say an investigation is underway after a man was found dead following a boating collision on a small lake in western Nova Scotia.

An RCMP spokeswoman says that after the collision Friday on Eel Lake — about 50 kilometres north of Yarmouth, N.S. — one person was rescued and a man in his 60s was reported missing.

Allison Gerrard says that after an extensive search the missing boater was found dead on Sunday night.

Gerrard says the person who was rescued from the small, aluminum boat wasn’t injured.

She says that as of Monday morning it wasn’t clear how many people were in the other boat involved in the collision, adding that there were not further injuries reported.

Crews searched for the missing man throughout the weekend, including with a helicopter from the Department of Natural Resources and with five fire department boats.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published April 10, 2023.
