In a unique attempt to create art with waste products, Berhampur ITI students have created a replica of an elephant using 30,000 plastic bottles. These bottles were picked and collected from different parts of the city as part of an initiative to curb plastic pollution.

The elephant statue is a 23-foot-tall elephant that has been made from scrap metal to prevent environmentally hazardous dumping of plastic waste.

To erect this statue,  students from various departments of ITI have come together to collect over 30,000 plastic bottles from different parts of the city. The structure was then painted and decorated with lights and installed inside the college premises.

“It is a common practice to throw the plastic bottles once we finish using them, it’s harmful to the environment so we decided to collect this plastic waste and make something creative out of it,” said one of the students Narayan Pradhan.

“Our teacher guided us only after which we were able to make the replica of an elephant. Our motto is to keep the environment clean and make the best from waste” said Tansen Karan, a student at ITI.

“Environmental pollution can be prevented by such use of plastic bottles. People will like and be aware of this unique artwork by the students. It is the creativity of students and they will become examples for others as well,”, ITI Principal Rajat Kumar Panigrahi.
