West Bengal Labour Minister of State Jakir Hossain was critically injured late on Wednesday evening after unidentified assailants lobbed crude bombs at his car.
The incident took place in the Suti area of Murshidabad when he was reportedly headed to the local Nimtita station to catch a train to Kolkata for a scheduled meeting of the Trinamool Congress.
Hossain was rushed to the Jangipur Superspeciality Hospital from where he was referred to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital. He is likely to be shifted to Kolkata on Thursday.
Hossain, also a leading businessman in the area, was reportedly attacked at a crowded spot in full public view and injuries in his leg.
Some Trinamool Congress workers who were accompanying the minister were also injured.
