India saw an addition of 2.22 lakh fresh Covid infections to its active caseload, taking the overall case count to 2.67 crore. In the last 24 hours, 4,454 people died, taking the total number of deaths to 3,03,720.

  1. Hit by second wave, India has become the third country after Brazil and the United States to record over 3 lakh deaths linked to Covid since the pandemic broke. Over 90,000 deaths and nearly 80 lakh cases have been reported this month so far.

  2. A top virologist, Dr Gagandeep Kang, said on Sunday that India delayed the process of bulk-buying vaccines unlike several other nations and may now have few options available in the international market. “The rest of the world has been buying vaccines at risk for a year, so what’s the supply that is available in the market for us to go now and say we want to buy vaccines?” she told NDTV.

  3. Over 19.6 crore doses of vaccines have been administered so far, the government has said. However, Delhi and several other states have said they are running low on stocks. Opposition leaders have been attacking the government over the issue.

  4. Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan are among the states that have again extended the lockdown to break the chain of transmission. A stricter lockdown begins in Tamil Nadu from today.

  5. In the last 24 hours, Tamil Nadu saw 35,483 fresh Covid cases. Maharashtra recorded 26,672 cases, Karnataka reported 25,979 infections, Kerala logged 25,820 infections and Andhra Pradesh reported 18,767 cases. These five states and Uttar Pradesh have logged the highest overall cases so far.

  6. Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat on Sunday said the Army is ready to extend help to the people of India in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic, news agency PTI reported.

  7. India’s second wave has overwhelmed not just hospitals with patients, it has also led to a severe shortage of oxygen and critical drugs. Harrowing images of long queues for funerals and makeshift pyres have also emerged from crematoriums and cemeteries.

  8. Black Fungus or Mucormycosis in Covid patients has emerged as a big concern in India’s fight against coronavirus.

  9. “Bleeding and clotting cases following #COVID19 vaccination in India are miniscule and in line with the expected number of diagnoses of these conditions,” the Health Ministry has said.

  10. India’s average positivity rate stood at 11.53 per cent. The government on Sunday said over 20 lakh samples were tested for the previous five days.
