NCP workers celebrate after Anil Deshmukh gets bail in case by CBI| Video

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) workers on Monday were seen celebrating after former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh got bail in a case by the CBI. In a video shared by news agency ANI, the NCP workers can be seen dancing, and waving the party’s flag. The leaders are also applying colours on each other, as seen in the video.

The Bombay High Court on Monday granted bail to Deshmukh in a corruption case filed by the CBI. However, Deshmukh is unlikely to walk out of jail as the central probe agency has sought time to challenge the decision in the Supreme Court in the coming days.

The NCP leader was arrested on November 2, 2021. He was jailed amid allegations against him by former Mumbai top cop Parambir Singh. Singh had alleged that the 74-year-old NCP leader was trying to extort money from bar owners in Mumbai through some police officials – including dismissed assistant inspector Sachin Waze.

In April 2021, the high court directed the CBI to carry out a preliminary inquiry. Based on this, the CBI registered a first information report (FIR) against Deshmukh and his associates for alleged corruption and misuse of official power.

Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate and the CBI have filed separate cases against Deshmukh.

Last month, the CBI in its affidavit stated that the “allegations against the former minister under the Prevention of Corruption Act were different from the case by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), registered under the PMLA.” “The PMLA case has no bearing on the instant CBI case. That the allegations substantiated against the present applicant are of criminal conspiracy to commit an offence punishable under section 7 of the PC,” read the affidavit.
