Manchester City star Erling Haaland fuels Real Madrid transfer talk

Manchester City’s goal-scoring machine Erling Haaland caused a buzz of curiosity as he stated that his long-term future with the club is still open to a decision. The curiosity around Haaland making a move away from City, stems from his rival’s increasingly probable move to Real Madrid in the upcoming transfer window.

As Manchester City prepare for their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash against Coppenhagen, Haaland’s comments came as a surprise to the City fanbase. Given his impressive form in all competitions for the Pep Guardiola-managed side, Haaland will undoubtedly be a coveted name for several European clubs to add to their roster, despite his current contract at City expiring in 2027.

“I’m really happy at City, really happy with all people I’m surrounded by – manager, board, directors. I say this now: tomorrow you never know what the future brings but I am happy. You can write this but also everything I said before!” Haaldn said in the UCL press conference.

The 23-year-old has been phenomenal for City since his move to the club from Borussia Dortmund in 2022. The Norwegian striker played a crucial role in City’s treble-winning 2022-2023 season, bagging 52 goals across all competitions for his team.

The striker has cemented his status as one of the most lethal forwards in today’s football world. Recognised as such, he clinched a runner-up finish in the 2023 Ballon d’Or and the 2023 FIFA BEST player award. When it comes to Haaland’s goal-scoring prowess shown this season, the player has already scored 23 goals in 30 appearances for City across all competitions.

Many are connecting Haalnd’s recent comments to the increased transfer drama around his rival Kylian Mbappe, who looks all likely to move to Real Madrid in the summer 2024 transfer window. Despite his comments, Haaland will be one of the key players to look out for in City’sUCL clash against Copenhagen on Thursday, March 7.
