How to style shorts for men – Times of India

Shorts started as ‘knee pants’ designed for boys in the 1890s serving as school and boy scout uniforms. In today’s time, these can be the unexpected star of anyone’s wardrobe if styled well. While shorts have always been a staple for casual outings, the right pair can also work in dressier circumstances, like the office or even cocktail hour. A good amount of concern comes from a desire to look appropriately outfitted in a given venue or setting. Below are
few guiding tips on how to wear and style shorts for different looks and occasions.

So much of ensuring your shorts look stylish, rather than lazy, is in the fit. Tents of fabric with billowy cargo pockets and tails of fabric hanging off the sides are not how a man’s shorts should fit. Don’t wear shorts that are two sizes big and call them ‘loose’. Fit is important no matter what cut you choose. One can wear a looser pair of shorts and still look tailored, as long as the fit is good. The tailored fit won’t necessarily mean slim-fitting. It simply means everything needs to fit properly. In other words, it needs to fit as it was designed to fit.

Denim shorts
A true classic, great for everybody. Like jeans, these are evergreen. The casual approach of denim shorts is all part of the lasting appeal. Style them with an easy-going light-coloured topwear, a cool round neck tee, or shirt goes well. Keep it casual and easygoing, a scoop neck tee gives an easy casual look with denim shorts and sneakers.

Chino shorts

Chino shorts are a men’s summer wardrobe essential. The tailored lines of this warm-weather staple make them flattering for all body types. Since these shorts often come in neutral and earthy colors, playoff that and combine them with a polo or button-down oxford shirt for subtle preppy vibes and a put-together outfit. The entire look can be paired with semi-formal leather shoes like moccasins or boat shoes.

Linen shorts

You can create a variety of outfits with linen shorts, but mixing texture can create some of the best ones. Choose a lightweight sweater, or opt for a romantic Victorian-style lace top for contrast. For a clean look for work or other formal events, add a linen blazer in the same color.

Knitted shorts

These easy-going casual shorts are good loungewear products. Can be clubbed with any

kind of casual topwear, be it henleys, round necks, or polo tees. You can avoid shirts with these

knitted shorts. Easy-going casual footwear goes well with this look.

Some of the best shoes and socks to wear with shorts

You have options when it comes to figuring out how to wear shorts with the right pair of shoes for your outfit. Considering shorts are casual wear, most dress shoes and dress boots are out. Some of the best options to wear with a pair of shorts are sneakers, boat shoes, espadrilles and loafers.Of course, we can wear socks with shorts but stick with liner, ankle, or no-show socks. Rely on no-show socks if you’re wearing loafers. Ankle socks should work

well enough if you’re wearing sneakers.
