Apart from clogged oil and dead skin cells, there are many factors that may contribute to the development of acne among teenagers. The factors such as stress, genetics, unhealthy diet, and hormonal imbalance can cause these breakouts.
Get rid of Acne at home
Here are some simple home remedies you can try to get rid of acne:
Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is made of the unfiltered juice of pressed apples. It has the ability to fight many types of bacteria and also contains organic acids such as citric acid and lactic acid, that have been found to kill P. Acnes.
It is important to dilute apple cider vinegar before use as undiluted apple cider vinegar may irritate the skin.
-Mix one part of apple cider vinegar and three parts of water
(use more water if you have sensitive skin)
-Clean your skin and gently apply the mixture to the skin using a cotton ball or cotton pad.
-Let the mixture sit on your skin for 30-40 seconds
-Rinse with water and pat dry
-Repeat the process 1-2 times a day, as required
Honey and cinnamon mask
Honey and cinnamon have antibacterial effects against acne. Honey and cinnamon have the ability to fight bacteria and reduce inflammation, which are the two factors that trigger acne.
-Mix 2 tablespoons of honey and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon to form a paste
-After cleansing, apply the paste on your face and leave it for 10 minutes.
-Rinse the mask off and pat dry the skin.
Aloe Vera clear gel
Aloe Vera is a tropical plant whose leaves produce a clear gel. The clear gel is commonly used to treat burns, rashes, and other skin conditions. Aloe Vera contains salicylic acid which is extremely effective for the treatment of acne.
-Scrape the gel from the leaves of the aloe vera plant using a spoon
-Apply the clear gel directly as a moisturiser
-Repeat 1-2 times a day
Green tea is rich in plant-based compounds- catechins. They have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antibiotic properties which can help in fighting acne.
-Brew a green tea bag for a few minutes, remove it from heat and let it cool
-Once the teabag becomes cool to touch, place it on top of pimples
-Repeat the process 4 times a week.
Reduce stress and exercise daily
The hormones released by the body during stress may increase sebum production and cause inflammation, making acne worse. Certain relaxation and stress reduction practices like getting more sleep, engaging in physical activities, and meditation may help in improving acne.
Most home remedies for acne have proved to be effective. In case of severe acne, consulting a dermatologist is recommended.
