In addition, the polishing agents used may be exceedingly detrimental to our health. Marble and soapstone powders are extremely harmful for the gut. Oil polish adds unnecessary extra fat to the pulses. The water used in the polishing process can be unsafe and can contain any kind of impurities.
In comparison, unpolished dals retain their taste and nutrients and shakti in the natural form. So the lesson here is that attractive-looking dal may not be a good option for your health. The more raw or untouched the produce is, the better it is for our health.
So always be prudent when making a choice. Opt for unpolished dals from a trusted brand, and steer clear of the smooth, shiny variety for the sake of your health. (Image: istock)
