Officials are investigating an explosion at a house in Toronto’s west end.
The incident took place at 171 Cedric Ave. near St. Clair West Village. No injuries have been reported and the cause of the blast has yet to be determined.
Toronto fire chief Matthew Pegg said in a tweet Saturday morning that an investigations team was on the scene at the home where the explosion occurred.
The office of the Ontario Fire Marshal has “been notified and an investigation into the origin, cause and circumstances of this explosion will be initiated,” Pegg said in the tweet.
“Thankful for no injuries and quick suppression by our crews.”
A picture attached to Pegg’s tweet shows the blown-up structure of the house surrounded by debris, broken wooden planks and shattered glass.
Mehdi Ghodsinia had been sleeping in his house directly across the street when he was awakened by the sound of a blast in the early hours of Saturday morning.
“It was a really huge sound. Like a bomb,” Ghodsinia, 41, said.
His car, which was parked nearby, was damaged in the incident. “My car windows, car doors, even my garage doors are damaged,” Ghodsinia said.
“It was very scary.”
