The Indian Railways will run special trains from Mumbai to Ahmedabad in the view of highly anticipated India-Pakistan 2023 Cricket World Cup match at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 14.

The Western Railway on Thursday said it would run one more pair of superfast special trains between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to ease the extra rush of cricket fans heading for a crucial match.

The bookings for the special trains, each with more than 1,500 seats, will open on October 13, 2023, at all reservation counters and on the IRCTC website.

This came a day after the Western Railway announced a pair of superfast special trains between the two cities for the cricketing contest. However, Railway officials said over 1,500 tickets for the train got booked in less than 20 minutes.

The Mumbai Central-Ahmedabad special train will depart at 9.30 pm on Friday (October 13) and will reach its destination at 5.30 am on the next day. Ahmedabad-Mumbai Central special train will leave Ahmedabad at 4 am on Sunday (October 15) and it will arrive at Mumbai Central at 12.10 pm on the same day.

A “special fare” will be charged for these trains, the railway said, adding that the trains will be a great bonanza for cricket fans to witness the India-Pakistan match.

These special trains comprise AC 2-tier, AC 3-tier, sleeper class and general second class coaches and they will halt at Dadar, Borivali, Palghar, Vapi, Valsad, Navsari, Surat and Vadodara stations in both directions.

HIGH-LEVEL SECURITY ARRANGEMENT IN AHMEDABAD

Given the nature of the India-Pakistan matches, high-level security arrangements have been put in place in Ahmedabad following threats. More than 11,000 personnel of various agencies including India’s elite counter-terror force National Security Guard (NSG), Rapid Action Force (RAF), home guards, and Gujarat Police have been roped in for the security at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and the city as well for the high-octane clash on Saturday.

Besides more than 7,000 police personnel, Ahmedabad Commissioner of Police G S Malik said nearly 4,000 home guards will be deployed to secure the stadium and to maintain law and order in communally sensitive areas of the city during the match. He asserted Ahmedabad has never witnessed communal violence during cricket matches played in the city in the past 20 years.
