Dhruv Jurel was over the moon after being called up for India’s first two Tests against England. The youngster is one of the three wicketkeepers in the squad, along with KL Rahul and KS Bharat.
On Friday, January 12, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named the squad. After finding his name in the squad, the 22-year-old could not stop himself from sharing his joy with his fans and well-wishers.
“Having the tears of joy and happiness,” Jurel wrote on his Instagram story.
Jurel has had a decent career in first-class cricket since making his debut for Uttar Pradesh in the 2022 Ranji Trophy match against Vidarbha.
In 15 first-class matches, Jurel has racked up 790 runs at an average of 46.47 and a strike-rate of 56.63 with one century and five half-centuries to his name. The Young Turk also has a top score of 249, which he got against Nagaland back in December 2022 at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium in Sovima.
Last month, Jurel played for India A in their two-match unofficial Test series against South Africa A. After bagging a duck in the first match, he responded with a knock of 69 in the second match. Earlier this month, he also scored a half-century against Kerala in the Ranji Trophy.
Jurel also made an impact for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) after he scored 152 runs from 13 matches at an average of 21.71 and a strike-rate of 172.73 with a top score of 34 not out.
