Shilpa Shetty recently responded to critics, who accused her of marrying Raj Kundra for his wealth. She clarified that although her husband may be wealthy, her decision to marry him was not solely based on this factor. Addressing misconceptions about her financial status, Shilpa mentioned that while she was aware of Raj’s background, her achievements were often overlooked. “When I married him, he was supposedly one of the youngest or wealthiest British Indians, according to Google. However, people forgot to acknowledge Shilpa Shetty, who was also financially successful at the time. Today, my wealth has only increased,” she stated in an interview with Zoom.

Shilpa Shetty further stated, “When you’re successful, you desire a partner who isn’t insecure, and it’s important to marry someone who can sustain your lifestyle, otherwise there may be discord at home, similar to the situation in the movie Abhiman”. Shilpa elaborated that the primary reason for marrying Raj was his character; she highlighted that wealth was not the foremost consideration. Even if he possessed significant wealth but lacked moral character, she wouldn’t have chosen to marry him. She also mentioned, “There were individuals wealthier than him who were eyeing me at that time.”

She expressed, “At the time of our marriage, coincidentally, he was in a good position, and I believe it was destined for us to be together. However, the reason I chose to marry him was because of his exceptional charm and warmth. All my friends have now become friends with Raj; they’ve shifted their loyalties because Raj is the heart of every gathering and is simply affable.”

During an episode of Farah Khan’s show Backbenchers in 2019, Anil Kapoor and Shilpa were guests. When Farah asked Shilpa why she accepted Raj Kundra’s proposal, Anil Kapoor jokingly remarked, “She wanted the money.” To which Shilpa responded, “Apart from money, he also opened his arms.” Shilpa and Raj got married in 2009 and are blessed with two children.
