We all love pasta. It may be an Italian dish but has found its way to the hearts of scores of Indians. Imagine how dear it must be to Italians. An Italian Facebook user drew the ire of other hard-core Italian foodies when she shared a bizarre hack of making pasta and passed it as the easiest way to make spaghetti. It may be an easy way to make pasta but definitely not a hygienic one. The user simply splayed all the ingredients of pasta recipe on countertop – all served cold and straight out of the packaging!
The woman named Lisa shared this infamous video titled ‘Ultimate Spaghetti Trick’ on Facebook, which went viral for all the wrong reasons. With 24m views and more than 12k comments, this hack got the attention it deserved, but got more flak than appreciation.
Watch the viral video here:
In the video, Lisa can be seen plopping cold Prego tomato sauce, Parmesan cheese powder, meatballs and spaghetti on her countertop. Then she dressed the base with packaged lettuce, packaged dressing and a layer of sliced bread sticks, which was cold and raw.
Lisa claimed, “I’m Italian and real Italians – this is how you make spaghetti.”
She made all the viewers clinch when she revealed that this is the “easiest way to make spaghetti for a crowd”, and declared the “family style” spaghetti is to be licked off straight from the counter.
American YouTuber Jarvis Johnson retweeted the video, which led to “Prego sauce” almost trending on Twitter.
Needless to say, the video received many wrath-filled comments, especially from Italians. Some of them included:
“That for me as [an Italian] is very offensive also they should know we never [have] spaghetti with meatballs, that is American not Italian”.
“Family style? I wouldn’t serve it this way to my dog!” another critic agreed, with a third adding: “I’ve never seen an Italian make dinner in this manner nor do they use cold sauce from a jar”.
“What a ‘hot,’ or should I say ‘cold,’ mess”.
