GTA bracing for another 10 centimetres of snow this weekend

January is coming to a close with another winter weather advisory for the GTA.

Environment Canada is forecasting up to 10 centimetres of snow for the GTA by the end of the weekend.

The snowfall will start late Saturday evening as a low-pressure system tracks south of the GTA.

Toronto could see up to five centimetres of snow by Saturday night, with a daytime high of 1 C and an overnight low around -2 C, with a wind chill of minus nine.

The snowfall is forecast to end Sunday afternoon with another five centimetres of accumulation expected, with a daytime high of 1 C.

A travel advisory is in effect for the GTA. Drivers are asked to slow down behind the wheel as road and highway surfaces might become slippery.

The national weather agency said a snowfall warning will be issued if snowfall exceeds 15 centimetres in less than 12 hours.

The weekend forecast follows this week’s significant winter storm, when up to 16 centimetres of snow caused flight delays and transit shutdowns.

Flurries are expected to last into Monday morning. Next week will kick start with a daytime high of -5 C.

No other winter weather events are expected for the upcoming week, with temperatures hovering between -5 C and -13 C.
