Freaky Fridays: Expect snow in the GTA this weekend, again

There’s that saying: once is an incident, twice is a coincidence and thrice is a pattern. Well, if it’s a Friday then it must be snowing in Toronto.

While Wednesday and Thursday will get a mix of sun and clouds, the city is expected to see 20 to 30 centimetres of snow accumulate between Friday and Saturday — again.

This comes after last Friday’s storm which saw a rare phenomenon appear known as thundersnow and blanketed the city with 20 to 30 centimetres of snow — which is still being cleaned up. The previous Friday’s storm also saw 5 to 10 centimetres of snow build-up for Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Halton Hills and York and Durham.

To prepare, the city declared a major snowstorm condition which will remain in place but “may be cancelled depending on how much snow needs to be removed.”

In the meantime, parking on roads designated as snow routes is prohibited and vehicles in these areas will be ticketed and towed.

Snow removal operations continue to focus on priority locations this week, including designated snow routes on arterial, collector and hilly roads, narrow sidewalks, bridge decks, cycling lanes and school zones.

Temperatures in the GTA for Tuesday night will see a low of -6 C but a wind chill value of -13 C, according to the Weather Network.

On Wednesday, a daytime high of 1 C along with a wind chill of -12 C in the morning is predicted, and gusting winds up to 33 kilometres per hour.

Thursday will also see a daytime high of 1 C but feel like -3 C with wind chill, and up to 30 kilometres per hour of wind gusts.
