The Delhi government has declared winter break for schools from November 9 to November 18. The winter break for Delhi schools is usually scheduled for December-January, however, due to pollution, a formal order has been issued to all schools in Delhi to take winter break now. Schools in Delhi were earlier ordered to conduct online classes till November 10.

Due to pollution in Delhi, all classes of all schools except for classes 10 and 12 are being conducted online. So as not to harm children’s education due to schools being closed because of pollution, these holidays are being adjusted with the winter break.

According to an earlier order by the directorate of education in Delhi, schools have been allowed to choose whether they want to hold online classes for grades 10 and 12 or call them to school. Teachers must go to their respective schools and conduct online classes from there. For students of pre-primary to class 9 and class 11, online classes are being held.

Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has been marked as ‘severe’ for the last few days. There was a slight improvement in smog conditions earlier this week, but the situation has again turned red again for the Delhi-NCR region. The AQI has touched 999 in Anand Vihar today, while other parts of Delhi remained in ‘severe’ condition. Just like Delhi, Noida, too, remained over the ‘severe’ category with Sector 62 recording 647. Schools in Noida as well as Faridabad and Gurugram have also been shut. Classes have been shifted online.

Besides, parents of several students have said that virtual learning is not as effective as physical classes and urged the government to find a permanent solution. Some parents said there was a lack of availability of necessary equipment required for online classes, others said the students must be informed in advance about the measures in store once the AQI starts to dip to avoid the abrupt shift to virtual learning, reported PTI.
