Over 39 lakh students are anticipated to sit for the board exams in 2024. Of them, 5,80,192 students will be taking exams at 877 centres in Delhi
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) issued a circular addressing schools, students, and parents on February 14, in anticipation of the upcoming Class 10 and Class 12 board exams. The notification shared on the official “X” handle of CBSE highlighted that more than 39 lakh students from India and 26 countries are anticipated to sit for the board exams commencing tomorrow, February 15. Among them, 5,80,192 students will be taking exams at 877 centres in Delhi which coincides with the farmers’ Delhi Chalo march.
In preparation for the exams, the CBSE recommended that students arrive by 10 AM before the 10:30 am exam start time. Due to the prevailing situation in Delhi, the Board advised students to leave their homes early and reach exam centres well in advance to avoid potential traffic delays. The use of metro services for transportation to examination centres was also suggested by the CBSE.
Students across India and other countries were urged to arrive at the examination centres before 10 AM, considering local traffic, weather conditions, and distance. The CBSE emphasised that students arriving later than 10:00 am would not be permitted entry into the examination hall. Additionally, schools were entrusted with supporting and guiding parents and students in following these guidelines.
Exams in five disciplines (Painting, Rai, Gurung, Tamang, and Sherpa) for Class 10 have been scheduled for February 15. Similarly, four Class 12 exams – Entrepreneurship, Kokborok, Capital Market Operations, and Physical Activity Trainer – are scheduled for the first day of board exams.
In anticipation of the farmers’ “Dilli Chalo” march on Wednesday, security was tight in several neighbourhoods of Delhi. To control mobility, barricades were erected alongside a strong presence of police officers in central Delhi. In response to the proposed farmers’ march, police in Delhi’s border regions set up multiple layers of barricades at the Singhu and Tikri borders on Wednesday, causing traffic disruptions.
As commuters chose to take metro services to reach their destinations instead of travelling by road, Delhi Metro clocked in a new milestone on February 13, 2024, with an astounding 71.09 lakh passenger journeys, breaking its previous high which was set in September 2023.
