A police sub-inspector mistakenly shot a woman in the head inside a police station in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh on Friday. The victim, who was visiting the police station for a query related to her passport, is now in a critical condition.
The woman, Ishrat, was immediately rushed to a hospital after the incident while the accused Inspector Manoj Sharma was suspended. A criminal case has also been registered against him.
As per the CCTV footage going viral on social media, the incident occurred at around 2:50 pm on Friday. The visuals showed the woman standing with a man awaiting her turn when the Inspector came in. While the policeman was talking to her, he was handed a gun by his colleague. The cop was then seen testing the gun when the shot was fired. Soon the woman was seen collapsing on the ground.

Soon after the incident, the policeman reportedly absconded and a search operation has been launched to nab him.
Woman Critical, Policeman Suspended
“Due to negligence, the above Inspector Manoj Sharma has been suspended with immediate effect and a criminal case has been registered against him. The injured woman is being treated in the hospital,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Aligarh Kalanidhi Naithani said, adding that the footage of the incident is being investigated by the field unit.

The woman was hit in the back of the head, the Aligarh SSP informed saying that strict action will be taken against the accused policeman.
