In Rajasthan, there were reports of friction between leaders in the state team and the central leadership was petitioned to replace Poonia, a Jat leader and an RSS man.

According to a party functionary, there were differences between Poonia and former chief minister, Vasundhara Raje.

Recently, the party appointed Gulab Chand Kataria as the governor of Assam, which was perceived as a shot in the arm for the supporters of Raje who have been pushing to name her as the chief ministerial candidate even though the central leadership has said the election will be fought with the PM as the face, the party functionary said.

With the appointment of Chaudhary, a Kurmi leader, the party is aiming to maximise its outreach among the OBC communities in Bihar.

After breaking ties with the JD(U), the BJP is trying to win over the OBCs, MBCs and Dalit community in the state to get a foothold.

In Odisha too, there was a demand for replacing president Samir Mohanty.
