Adelaide Street East will be closed from east of Yonge Street to west of Victoria Street due to a “potential falling hazard from a nearby building,” the city said late Thursday afternoon.
Toronto Police Service said in a tweet just before 1:45 p.m. that an antenna was leaning from the top of a 24-storey building.
In an email from the media relations team, the city said the closure is expected to last until January 29 or until the antenna is safely removed.
“The building’s staff have advised that the antenna suffered damage as a result of yesterday’s storm,” a city spokesperson said in the email
The city is advising everyone to use alternate routes and consider public transit. TTC routes are not affected by the closure.
Toronto Fire Services is investigating.
