The UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) exam is considered one of the most challenging exams to succeed in. Nevertheless, with unwavering dedication, strong enthusiasm and diligent efforts, individuals can not only successfully crack this exam but also achieve top positions. The story of Ishita Kishore, who emerged as the 2022 topper in the UPSC Civil Services Examination, is similar.

Ishita Kishore holds a degree in economics and graduated from Delhi University’s Shri Ram College of Commerce in 2017. Initially, she ventured into the corporate world, working with Ernst & Young in risk advisory. However, her true passion always lay elsewhere.

She took the UPSC exam a couple of times before finally succeeding on her third try. Remarkably, this was the first time she made it to the interview stage, which is the crucial third step in the UPSC examination process. In her initial two attempts, she didn’t even clear the prelims stage of the UPSC exam. She has now given some tips for UPSC aspirants to crack the exam.

1) Determining strengths and weaknesses

In an interview, she emphasised the importance of recognising one’s individual strengths and weaknesses. She believes that acknowledging these aspects is essential for effective preparation, with particular emphasis on improving one’s weak points through dedicated focus.

2) Maintaining honesty in the interview

The UPSC topper also offered valuable advice for the UPSC Civil Services interview process. She encouraged candidates to maintain honesty throughout the interview and, if unable to answer a question, to admit it honestly rather than attempting to deceive the panel.

3) Creating an individual to-do list

Ishita Kishore suggested that the list of do’s and don’ts for UPSC preparation is not set in stone and can vary for each individual. She recommended that candidates create their own customised list based on their unique needs and circumstances.

4) Carefully selecting study material

Finally, she advised candidates to maintain a focused approach to study material selection. She suggested gathering study materials from both online sources and offline books but cautioned against overloading with too many resources. According to her, collecting an excessive number of books can lead to confusion and time wastage, emphasising the importance of quality over quantity.
