Noah Centineo plays a grown-up in ‘The Recruit’ and ‘National Treasure’ gets a TV spinoff: What’s streaming on Netflix, Disney and more this week

With so many different streaming platforms and cable offerings to navigate, choosing what to watch has never been harder. To make things easier, here are our best tune-in tips for the week ahead.

TUESDAY

The Voice

It’s down to the final five on “The Voice” and the show’s 22nd winner will be named tonight. This time around, it isn’t as much about the winner (honestly who has ever heard of a “Voice” winner doing anything after the show ends?) as about next season, which will be Blake Shelton’s final stint as a full-time coach when it premieres in March. Niall Horan and Chance the Rapper will join Kelly Clarkson to round out the panel if the show returns after that.

WEDNESDAY

Survivor

Anyone who knows me knows that the “Survivor” season finale isn’t just my pick of the week but my perennial pick of the year. For the first time in three seasons, there isn’t an Ontario-born player to root for in Wednesday’s finale. This season has been a mixed bag. The abundance of twists could lead one to argue that the winner won’t be the most deserving but simply the luckiest. With that said, all the remaining finalists can make a strong case, leading to one of the most unpredictable finales in the show’s 43 seasons.

Don’t Pick Up the Phone

This fascinating and disturbing new Netflix doc profiles the strip-search phone scam that took place across the United States in the early 2000s. Multiple fast-food restaurants would receive calls from someone claiming to be a police officer or other authority figure, demanding the manager strip-search an employee who was being accused of a crime. This went on for 12 years! Eventually a suspect emerged, but the story only gets crazier from there.

Netflix

National Treasure: Edge of History

This new series is the latest edition of the film franchise starring Nicolas Cage that began in 2004. It stars Lisette Olivera as Jess Valenzuela, a woman mourning the death of her mother when she’s presented with the chance to find a centuries-old treasure that might be connected to her father. Justin Bartha and Harvey Keitel are both on board to reprise their roles from the original. It’s believed that Cage won’t return as Benjamin Gates in the first season but that there is a plan for him to appear in a possible Season 2.

Disney Plus

Atlanta

The fourth and final season of “Atlanta” will be available to stream on Wednesday. Donald Glover and Brian Tyree Henry return as Earn and Paper Boi as they find themselves back in their hometown.

Disney Plus

The Banshees of Inisherin

Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson star in this story about two lifelong friends who reach a stalemate in their relationship. The movie is set in 1923 on the fictional island of Inisherin in Ireland. When Padraic (Farrell) invites Colm (Gleeson) to go for a drink, he is rebuked. The cold shoulder leads to an epic ultimatum.

Disney Plus

THURSDAY

Cross Country Cake Off

This new CTV original pairs Mary Berg with pastry chef Andrew Han as they judge the best holiday-themed cakes across Canada. The premiere is split into two parts with the first episode airing on Thursday and the second on Friday before the series moves to Mondays. The winner takes home a $50,000 grand prize.

9 p.m., CTV and CTV.ca

Who Killed Santa? A Murderville Murder Mystery

Will Arnett returns as Senior Detective Terry Seattle and is joined by guest stars Jason Bateman and Maya Rudolph. The trio endeavour to find out who had the audacity to kill St. Nick. The catch? Bateman and Rudolph (no relation to the reindeer) aren’t working off a script so they have to improvise while Arnett leads them through the mystery before they guess the killer.

Netflix

FRIDAY

The Recruit

This new series actually serves as a double entendre. While it stars Noah Centineo as a dorky CIA lawyer who finds himself in the middle of an international power play, it is also a test for its lead actor. Perhaps best known for starring in “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” and “The Perfect Date,” the actor marked for his teen roles is finally being recruited for an adult part.

Netflix

Cook at All Costs

This new Canadian reality series features home cooks bidding on ingredients to win favour with celebrity guest judges in an effort to find out if fancy produce actually produces better results. In the end, only one will survive.

Netflix

SATURDAY

Gordon Ramsay’s Road Trip: Christmas Vacation

I have this one circled on my calendar and I am still not sure why. Cranky chef Ramsay and a couple of his friends go on a road trip to “find Santa Claus” in a special that promises amazing food and big laughs. I feel like the main course will be a whole lot of cheese, but I guess that’s what holiday programming is all about.
