New York Knicks’ Julius Randle creates unique record with brilliant performance against Minnesota Timberwolves

New York Knicks lost to Minnesota Timberwolves 134-140 on Monday night, despite the heroics of Julius Randle who scored a career-high 57 points in the match.

Wolves got off to a 10-point lead in the first round as they scored 42 points as against Knicks’ 32 points. Knicks bounced back in style to narrow the difference to just 1-point between both teams at the end of three rounds. But Wolves scored 31 points in the fourth round while Knicks could manage 26 points and lost the game by six points.

The team lavished high praise on Randle for his incredible peformance on the night.

“It’s a shame to waste a performance like that,” Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau said after the game.

“He[Randle] played so well. He brought us back, he played unbelievable. We just got to be better as a team to help him make that career night feel like something special. But when you lose that, kind of just chops all the feeling out of everything,” said Knicks guard Jalen Brunson.

Having scored 52 points after three quarters, Randle was on course to eclipse Carmelo Anthony’s franchise-record 62, scored in a game against the Charlotte Bobcats on Jan. 24, 2014. Nonetheless, Randle became the first Knicks player to score 55+ points and 8+ threes in a match.

Randle’s 57-point performance was the third-best in Knicks franchise history, jointly tied with Richie Guerin’s figures on December 11 in 1959. He is now just behind Anthony (62 on Jan. 24, 2014) and Bernard King (60 on Dec. 25, 1984).

Randle spoke to the media about the achievement of figuring in a list alongside former stars like Anthony and King.

“Those are legends in this game. And pioneers, specifically for this organization, who laid the groundwork and led the way for players like myself to come behind them, be able to play the game I love. Be able to grind, put on that Knicks jersey with pride,” said Randle.

He was however disappointed for not being able to win it for his team.

“Hopefully I will be able to [enjoy it],” Randle said. “But tonight, probably not.”
